Summary
One of set of 4 silver gilt vase-shaped wine coolers, each on plain circular foot, oviform body decorated with Arms of William, Viscount Lowther and motto MAGISTRATUS INDICAT VIRUM, and figure of a bacchante - 2 have female form and 2 have male form. High swan's-neck handles, fluted neck and gadrooned rim. George III by William Fountain 1802. Stamped on base 'GILT AD 1886'.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
