Summary
Line engraving, Pompey's Pillar, with a distant view of Windsor Castle, (after Richard Dalton) by James Sargant Storer (Cambridge 1771 - London 1853). Dedicated to 'the Honourable John Scott MB this Delineation of Pompey's Pillar with a distant view of Windsor Castle'. Two lines of verse below. Inscribed on pillar 'Georgio IIIo, Patri Patriae'. Pencil note '1821'. Mounted on paper. Statue of George III. Whole length in Roman dress with laurel wreath, armour, mantle, and baton in right hand. The figure of George III on top of Pompey's Pillar, with a view of Windsor Castle in the background. Possible that this print represents a proposal of a monument to George III at Windsor within the King's lifetime, before the creation of Sir Richard Westmacott's Copper Horse, erected in 1831
