Summary
Photograph, black and white, Queen Elizabeth Farnese, Queen of Spain (1692-1766) (after Jean-Baptiste van Loo) by unknown photographer. Small framed catalogue photograph of Elizabeth Farnese by Van Loo. Inscription on back - 'Elizabeth Farnese, 2nd wife of Phillip V of Spain. Born 25th Oct 1692, the daughter and heir of Odoardo Farnese, Duke of Parma, by Dorothea Sophia of Bavaria. Married Phillip V 24 Dec 1714 by whom she was mother of Charles III King of Spain, Phillip Duke of Parma and other children. Called after 1746 The Queen Mother. after the deaths of her stepsons Kings Louis and Ferdinand VI, her son Charles, King of the Two Sicilies, succeeded to Spain in 1759. She wielded great power during the reign of these sovereigns and did not die till 11th July 1766. Extract from a letter from Mr George Milner-Gibson-Cullum 27 Sept 1906'.
