Summary
Copper electrotype, a moulded oviform vase, late 19th century. One of a pair of copper electrotype vases with everted lips, oviform bodies, gadrooned bases, and fluted stems (with NT 515147.2). The vases moulded with layered acanthus, double calyx drops, spreading acanthus, and a guilloche strip enclosing rosettes. The sides enriched with satyrs masks and festoons of olive and oak. Mounted on round stone pedestals. Formerly at High House, Campsea Ashe, Suffolk, seat of James William Lowther, 1st Viscount Ullswater (1855-1949), now demolished.
Provenance
Purchased by James William Lowther, 1st Viscount Ullswater (1855-1949), Campsea Ashe, Suffolk, by whose executors sold at Campsea Ashe by Messers. Garrod, Turner & Son, The Contents of High House, 24-31 October 1949; purchased by Urban Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966); bequeathed to the National Trust by Lord Fairhaven with the house and the rest of the contents.
