Summary
An oak long or 'refectory' table, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944), English, circa 1903-1912. With rectangular three-plank top raised on three central baluster columns joined by a central stretcher and standing on sleigh feet.
Provenance
The table seems to have been introduced into the castle in the latter part of Lutyens' renovation, around 1912/13. It is possible that the interior designer and furniture maker Frederick Muntzer was responsible for making the table, although a design drawing of the table in Lawrence Weaver's book Houses and Gardens by E.L. Lutyens could be by Lutyens himself.
