Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, John A. Pringle (1792-1839), attributed to Andrew Plimer (Wellington 1763 - Brighton 1837). Oval. 1828. Head and shoulder portrait of a young man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a black coat with brass buttons, a white waistcoat, and a voluminous white bow cravat. Grey eyes, wavy black hair, aged about 25. Cloud and sky background. Gilt metal frame, oval. Inscribed - John A Pringle Castle Dynes 1828. Married Christina Dixom d.1839. Fanny C. Pringle J.A.D' (written in ink on reverse). Thought to be 1825 (circa).
Provenance
Painted 1828. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
