Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on paper, The Hon. Maria Frances Catherine Stapleton, Countess of Roden (1794-1861) (after Sir George Hayter) by G. Faid (fl.1857) or Guglielmo Faija (1803 – after 1861). 1857. Rectangular. Three-quarter length portrait of a young woman, reclining to the left on a couch, strumming a mandolin, wearing a white dress and a coral necklace. Brown eyes, black hair in ringlets. Interior background. Inscribed - Copy by G.Faid 1857 of a larger painting by G.Hayter 1813 (written in ink on reverse). 1857.
Provenance
Painted 1857. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
