Summary
One of twenty five carved wooden armorial shields, hung on two brass hooks and painted with the coat of arms of the Marshall family. A millrind sable; on a chief gules three antelopes' heads erased of the field (black millrind on a shield, the top third of said shield is covered by a red band on which are three antelope heads). Inscribed - MARSHALL of Teigngrace Devon (hand written in pencil and biro on back). 1935 (circa).
Provenance
Made circa 1935. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
