Summary
One of twenty five carved wooden armorial shields, hung on two brass hooks and painted with the coat of arms of the Benthall family. Or, a lion rampant queue furchee azure crowned gules (gold shield on which is a blue rearing lion with forked tail and wearing a red crown). Inscribed - I Benthall (hand written in pencil on back). 1935 (circa).
Provenance
Made circa 1935. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
