Summary
Watercolour on paper, Henry Everett Benthall (1867-1919) by Laura Benthall (1827-1912). Three-quarter length portrait as a boy; facing, though sitting in profile to the right with his legs crossed, and wearing an Eton jacket; in a landscape setting with his right arm holding a black and brown spaniel. Inscribed - Henry Benthall painted by his Aunt Laura (label pasted on back); 1800 - 1900.
Provenance
Painted by Laura Benthall, aunt of Henry Everett Benthall, circa 1877. Owned by Mary Clementina Benthall (1879-1960) and recorded in the 1957 list of pictures, furniture etc suggested for retention at Benthall Hall by the National Trust. Transferred to the ownership of the National Trust with the contents of Benthall Hall in the Deed Of Gift made by Mary Clementina Benthall and dated 8th August 1958. Recorded in the Inventory Of National Trust Property At Benthall Hall dated 1st October 1963.
