Summary
Watercolour on paper, Burial Ground and Parsonage House, Jessore, India by Clementina Marshall, Mrs Edward Benthall (d.1905). A large white single storey building, arcaded on each side. Foliage and tree in foreground with figure in brown and red robes. Tombs visible among palm trees on the left. Unframed, wide gilt-lacquered paper mount. Inscribed - Buriel Ground and Parsonage House Jessore 1846 Ernest (written in pencil); 1846.
Provenance
Painted by Clementina Marshall, wife of Edward Benthall, in 1846. Owned by Mary Clementina Benthall (1879-1960) and recorded in the 1957 list of pictures, furniture etc suggested for retention at Benthall Hall by the National Trust. Transferred to the ownership of the National Trust with the contents of Benthall Hall in the Deed Of Gift made by Mary Clementina Benthall and dated 8th August 1958. Recorded in the Inventory Of National Trust Property At Benthall Hall dated 1st October 1963.
