Summary
One of three circular coffee cans, cylindrical body, moulded scroll handle. Hand painted with the Benthall crest, motto and coat of arms to the front, decorated with single gilt floral motif below handle, narrow blue and gilt border around inner rim. Made circa 1800, these are later replacements for pieces from the Chinese export armorial tea and coffee service, originally ordered and owned by Thornton Benthall.
Provenance
Made circa 1800. Included on page 2 of the Inventory of Items On Loan To The National Trust For Benthall Hall dated 1st October 1963. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Bequeathed to the National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by the National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
