Portrait of Mary Queen of Scots, wearing a sixteenth century style dress, with curled hair, head-dress and veil. She is seated at a table, her right arm resting on it, while her hand supports her head. Her left hand touches an open book on the table. Beams of light fall upon her from a window to her left, and a female figure kneels behind Mary, her hands covering her face. The scene is set in a medieval style interior, with columns and tiled floor.
