Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Thomas Legh (1792–1857) by Sir William Charles Ross, RA (London 1794 – London 1860). A three-quarter length oval miniature portrait depicting Thomas Legh aged 53 (1792-1657) by Sir Wiliam Charles Ross (1794-1860). 1846. Convex glazing set in a gilt-brass frame with hanging loop. Standing with body turned slightly to the right; the male sitter wears a navy frock coat with brass buttons and a black cravat. His hair and side-whiskers are brown.
Provenance
Purchased in 1979 for 75.00. Noted in Thomas Legh's will, left to his daughter Ellen at Shrigley with a companion image of his 2nd wife Maud (info from Kate Atkinson).
