One of a pair in a set of landscapes; watercolour on paper. An outdoor scene with a tall tree framing the scene on the left. There is an area of ground in the foreground infront of a city which stretches across the middle distance. Two figures in the foreground, one reclining and one with a stick; there are other smaller figures infront of the city. City has buildings on different levels of land and to the right is a tower with a pointed roof. City also has trees infront and hills rise above the city in the far distance. Mounted within a bound portfolio.
Provenance
Thomas Legh (1792-1857) travelled extensively in the Middle East and Egypt in the early 19th century. He produced his own drawings of this but they did not survive. In 1841 Viscount Castlereagh undertook a similar journey and he employed Anton Schranz to produce a record of his travels. He had them bound into a series of portfolios, this set is the fifth portfolio.
