Summary
One of a set of landscapes; watercolour on paper. A landscape with boulders in the foreground and mountains in the background. A rocky mountain slopes from the left into a pass between the two opposite mountains. There is a building in the pass with two tents at the base and various trees surrounding it. The pass winds into the distance with more mountains visible. Mounted within a bound portfolio.
Provenance
Thomas Legh (1792-1857) travelled extensively in the Middle East and Egypt in the early 19th century. He produced his own drawings of this but they did not survive. In 1841 Viscount Castlereagh undertook a similar journey and he employed Anton Schranz to produce a record of his travels. He had them bound into a series of portfolios, this set is the first portfolio.
