Summary
A mahogany and cane child's bergere chair, English, early 19th century, part of a high chair with NT 495195.2, which forms the base and, when the two are detached from each other, a child's table. With arched toprail with integral downswept arms, raised on squat ring and baluster-turned arm supports. The back and sides filled with cane. The seat - once caned - now with later plywood board and with a moulded and serpentine front seat rail. Raised on ball- and baluster-turned front legs and square-section outswept rear legs, all joined by a ring-turned 'X'-shaped stretcher, fitted with a brass screw to secure it to the table base.
