Summary
An oak font cover, English, circa 1850. Topped by an iron ring and a finial of Gothic cusped roses, broadening in eight panels, each pierced with a quatrefoil, and with moulded base rail. A pulley for raising the cover set into the ceiling, but the change lacking.
Provenance
Purchase by Sir Henry Dryden, 4th Bt. (1818 - 1899) to cover the re-instituted 15th century font, which he found in a nearby ditch. Canons Ashby, The Dryden Collection (acquired with the help of the National Heritage Memorial Fund) and transferred to The National Trust in 1980/1.
