Summary
A set of three painted window cornices, English, early 19th century. All with curved ends, edged with mouldings and painted with green and orange ribbons against an ochre ground. NT 494384.1 and 494384.2 with their original metal poles and fittings and with pelmets of crimson wool moreen with a deep wool fringe. NT 494384.3 fitted with a box pleated pelmet of wool repp with flat weave braid applied to its lower edge and a deep wool fringe, which was probably originally fitted to the Spenser Room bed.
Provenance
Probably the '3...japanned cornices' recorded in the '3 step room' in 1819 and 1846, and still in place when the contents of Canons Ashby were auctioned on the 4th of July 1980 [Lot 346] when they were purchased by the National Trust.
