Summary
Two entry tickets for 'Osman', an exhibition curated by goldsmith and architect Louis Osman and held at Canons Ashby in May 1974. The tickets, designed by Louis Osman, feature an image of the reverse of the 'Canons Ashby' medal. Inspired by wax copies of the Canons Ashby Priory seal, the medal shows the Virgin Mary enthroned with the Holy Child on her lap and holding a sceptre fleur-de-lys in her right hand. The image is encircled by the legend Sigillum Sancte Marie de Essebi (The Seal of Saint Mary of Ashby). The medal was designed by Louis Osman in 1973 for display in the Goldsmiths' Company exhibition, Medals Today.
Full description
'Osman', a five-day exhibition, contained 130 works on loan from the Goldsmiths’ Company, Queen Elizabeth II and private clients as well as Osman’s drawings, enamels by Dilys Osman and pieces by Malcolm Green, Philip Noakes and Stephen Munn. The centrepiece of the exhibition was a 41-foot glazed showcase that ran the length of the Long Gallery. A celebration of Louis Osman's work, the exhibition was also organised with a view to raising support for the restoration of Canons Ashby, where the Osmans were tenants.
