Summary
A hand sewn ladies' white cotton workshirt with short puffed sleeves, embroidered with the initials 'J.S.' on the front of the garment. Reportedly made and worn by a female inmate at Shardlow Workhouse, Derbyshire.
Provenance
Gifted in 2002 by Margaret Archer. The garment is from Shardlow Workhouse where 'all females had to make their own uniform by unpicking the flour bags and making them into the dress'.
