Summary
One of a pair of ivory portrait reliefs, Prince Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), British, early nineteenth century. The Duke of York faces left, wearing a high collared jacket and cravat, the Garter star on his left breast and sash over the left shoulder. He is depicted without a wig. Displayed in a gilt wooden frame with composite moulded decoration in the form of acanthus leaves and scallop shells in each corner. The Duke of York was the second son of George III and Queen Charlotte.
