Summary
Photograph - Country Life, 1903. The wall with niches and fountain on the long terrace, shown in Kip (at top of terraces now in the Pear orchard). This was still part of the garden in 1903 and the path and border look well kept. The timber rail above shown in Kip has, of course, been replaced by the iron deer fence. When Justin Blathwayt left the mansion for his house beyond the West Gate, converted from old cottages, these niches were removed to his swimming pool, on the river Boyd, below and beyond the walled kitchen garden. (Their original position can be seen at this point where the retaining wall was repaired). Country Life copyright stamp on reverse.
