Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Charles Pye Blathwayt (1828-1920) as an Ensign, by Charles Ford (Bath 1801 – Bath 1870). 1846. Rectangular. Half-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing the uniform of the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot red, gold epaulettes, white sword-belt with regimental buckle and lanyards. Blue eyes, black hair, fresh complexion, aged 18. Sky background. Charles Pye Blathwayt (1828-1920). As an Ensign 1846 in the 52nd Oxfordshire Regiment of foot, aged 18. Fourth son of Lt. Col. G.W.B.and Marianne Vesey. (Marked on card old no DYR.D.6). Inscribed on backing paper - C. Ford Bath 1846.
Provenance
Indigenous collection purchased by Ministry of Works in 1954 and given to Dyrham Park in 1961.
