Summary
Print, engraving, Unknown Man formerly thought to be Lodovico Ariosto (1474-1533) after Titian (Pieve di Cadore 1488/90 - Venice 1576). A half-length portrait of a man, in profile to the right, his head turned back to face the viewer. The portrait is taken from a painting by Titian, now in the National Gallery, London, which was long thought to depict the Italian poet Lodovico Aristo, but is now entitled A Man with a Quilted Sleeve and dated 1510. Inscribed "LUDOVICVS, ARIOSTVS, printer’s name appears to be hidden by the frame.
