Summary
Print, engraving, Admiral Edward Russell, 1st Earl of Orford (1653-1727) (after Sir Godfrey Kneller) by Jacobus Houbraken (Dordrecht 1698 - Amsterdam 1780) Half-length in cartouche, head turner to spectator. Around the cartouche “Edward Russell Earl of Oxford” and below a naval scene. The inscription is obscured by the frame. Orford was a Royal Navy officer and one of a group of English nobleman who issued the Invitation to William, a document inviting Prince William of Orange to depose King James II. He was Prince William's secretary during the preparations for the invasion of England and Glorious Revolution.
