Summary
Writing slope. An oak writing slope. The slope is unpainted and the sides are painted green. The slope sits on a wooden peg on the table allowing it to swivel. The slope incorporates apertures for ink horns and pen holes. Based on a writing table and slope in manuscript illumination of the Flemish illuminator Jean Mielot at work, c1450 [Royal Library, Brussels, Ms.9278-80 f.10].
Provenance
This piece was made by John Nethercott and Co, Discoed, Powys in 2011. The furniture and fittings were commissioned especially for the Tudor Merchant’s House by Dr Charles Kightly.
