Summary
Table. An oak writing table with cleft legs that are braced with four stretchers. The oak is umpainted. This form is designed to provide the maximum stability for use in writing. Based on a writing table and slope in manuscript illumination of the Flemish illuminator Jean Mielot at work, c1450 [Royal Library, Brussels, Ms.9278-80 f.10].
Provenance
This piece was made by John Nethercott and Co, Discoed, Powys in 2011. The furniture and fittings were commissioned especially for the Tudor Merchant’s House by Dr Charles Kightly.
