Summary
Leaded lights from the Spence room windows on the ground floor. The Spence Room has an interesting four light window with a timber frame probably 16th or 17thC. Original leaded lights have given way to sheets of crown glass divided by a single horizontal zing glazing bar. Surviving pintel hinges demonstrate that originally the outer two lights were side hung opening casements. However only the left hand casement survives. This surviving casement has a timber frame applied to the original late medieval flat iron frame with rivets. The crown glass is et against this applied timber frame. At the centre of the timber frame is a holdfast for timber shutters with an iron pin and wing nut. Above the surviving casement frame are two original iron tabs which would have held a leaded light in place.
