Marble, Venus Italica, after Antonio Canova (1757-1822), Italian (Florentine or Roman) School, 19th century. A white marble statue after the Venus Italica by the Italian neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova, the original in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence (1812). Italian School, most probably carved in Florence or Rome, in the 19th century. A figure of a nude female bather looking to proper left, covering the front body with drapery, the proper left hand held over the proper right breast, the proper right hand held around the waist; a casket enriched with egg and tongue and relief panels and mounted on paw feet placed behind the proper right foot. On an integrally carved circular base.
