Summary
Wax on wood board with veneered mount and dark wood frame, portrait relief medallion, Lady Adelaide Chetwynd-Talbot, Countess Brownlow (1844/5-1917), c.1880s. An oval portrait relief medallion carved of wax showing Adelaide, Countess Brownlow, in profile looking left. Her hair is loosely tied back, she wears a dress or cloak gathered around the neck. The medallion is mounted with veneered wood (possibly walnut) and a dark wood moulded and stepped frame. The medallion is broken in pieces at left.

It is possibly related to bronze and Parian portrait relief medallions showing Adelaide and her husband Adelbert, 3rd Earl Brownlow (1844-1921), in profile, looking left (dated 1885). Alice Rylance-Watson December 2018
