Summary
Sandstone, urn mounted on plinth and pedestal, a monument to Tina and Tip, dogs of Belton House, pedestal inscribed and dated 'TINA | COUNTESS BROWNLOW'S | Favourite little dog. | 1896' and below 'IN MEMORY OF | DEAR TIP | 1899'. A classical urn carved of sandstone depicting a Bacchanal, mounted on a square plinth and stepped sandstone pedestal. The relief frieze shows maenads dancing and playing musical instruments, a garlanded herma of Pan before a fire, Dionysus riding a chariot drawn by panthers, drunken satrys, one clutching a maiden and riding a frenzied bull. The relief is badly weathered in parts. The inscriptions are in memory of two dogs, Tina and Tip, owned by Lady Adelaide Talbot (1844/5-1917) and her husband Adelbert Wellington Brownlow Cust, 3rd Earl Brownlow (1844-1921).
