Summary
A large Spanish altar cross on an English plinth The cross with floral arms decorated with applied medallions of scenes of the Passion and chased with cherubs' masks and bunches of fruit, the shaped triangular plinth decorated with applied cherubs' masks and chased with scrolls and foliage, engraved with the inscription. The cross is 16th/17th century the plinth is by Robert Garrard and dated 1834.
Marks and inscriptions
This Symbol of Christianity was placed in Belton House Chapel by the nine surviving Sons and Daughters of Brownlow and Frances, Lord and Lady Brownlow, in grateful commemoration of their having been all reassembled under the Paternal Roof to celebrate the Majority of the Heir of the next generation October 15th 1833'.
