Three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, leaning on a pedestal with roses and gloves. She is wearing a blue dress, white lace collar, and an old rose shawl. Grey eyes, black hair, pale pink complexion. Trees on the left and sky background with distant horizon on the right. Inscribed on the reverse ' Lady Marian Alford - Daughter of the Marquis of Northampton painted by W. Derby - 12 0mabul St(?), Regents Park/ from another picture by Francis Grant Esq - A.R.A./ 1844 given by her to Emma the Countess Brownlow.
