Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Frances Bankes, Lady Brownlow (1756 – 1847) attributed to Jeremiah Meyer, RA (Tübigen 1735 – Kew 1789). Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a white dress. Blue eyes, long powdered hair with a blue ribbon, pale complexion. Plain grey background. Frances Bankes, Lady Brownlow was the daughter of Sir Henry Bankes (1711-1774) an alderman and merchant of London and Frances Pembrooke; married in 1775 as his second wife, Sir Brownlow Cust, 1st Baron Brownlow of Belton (1744-1807) and brought with her a dowry of £100,000, and a collection of her father's pictures. She also bore him eleven children
