Summary
Ormolu on velvet covered board, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, KB, MP (1769-1852), British, 19th century. Ormolu bas-relief portrait bust of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, in profile. The Duke wears full military dress and decorations. The plaque is mounted on an octagonal purple velvet backboard with a brass eyelet to hang.
Full description
The Duke of Wellington led Britain to victory against Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Sculptural tributes ranged from the public and monumental to the more modest, such as this ormolu bas-relief bust for the gentleman’s study. Alice Rylance-Watson October 2018
