Bronze and oak, bronze portrait relief medallion in a square oak frame, Adelbert Wellington Brownlow Cust, 3rd Earl Brownlow, GCVO, PC, MP (1844-1921) and Lady Adelaide Chetwynd-Talbot, Countess Brownlow (1844-1917), inscribed ADELBERT at left and ADELAIDE at right and IXXI | LOX | 1885 at rear. Adelbert and Adelaide are shown in profile facing left; foliage frames the portraits at left and top right.

A version of this bronze medallion was produced in Parian, a type of porcelain; see NT 436755. See also NT 436835, a wax portrait relief of Adelaide, Countess Brownlow, which may have been a preparatory work for the bronze and Parian medallions. Alice Rylance-Watson December 2018

Purchased 1885 by Adelbert Wellington Brownlow Cust, 3rd Earl Brownlow. Purchased with a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) from Edward John Peregrine Cust, 7th Baron Brownlow, C. St J. (b.1936) in 1984.
