A giltwood stand, by Gillow & Co. London, supplied to Belton in 1829. For an Italian ebony and lapis lazuli cabinet, with a moulded frieze carved with acanthus and scrolls centred by a female mask and plumes, raised on cabriole legs headed by scallop shells edged with scrolls and carved with acanthus.
Full description
This stand was reduced in height, painted white and enhanced with oil gilding sometime towards the end of the 19th century. Conservation revealed that it was previously painted black and gold and had originally been wholly water gilded. The stand has now been returned to its original height and finish.
