Summary
Mezzotint, Elizabeth Brownlow, later Countess of Exeter (1681 - 1723) (after Gerard Soest) by Isaac Becket (Kent 1653 - London 1719). A rare and charming portrait, depicting Lady Elizabeth Brownlow (1681 - 1723) as a baby. She sits on a bank, naked except for a silk scarf, hair under a cap, with a vase of flowers on the left and a landscape park in the background. Eldest daughter and heiress of 'Young' Sir John Brownlow (1659 - 1697) of Belton Lincolnshire. In 1699 she became the second wife of John Cecil, Lord Burghley, later the 6th Earl of Exeter. She died 2 years after her husband, having borne five sons and several daughters.
