Summary

Brush and sepia wash and pencil on paper, So boldly He Entered the Netherly Gate by So Boldly He Entered the Netherly Gate by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). A mounted figure in the foreground, looks back through a pair of gate osts into the back right of the picture, where there is a large square building and wing. In the right fore- and middle-ground is a collection of heads, forming the impression of a crowd. Very unfinished. Dated 1860.
