Summary
Watercolour and pencil on paper, Two scenes from the Village of Ford by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). i) A scene set in the village of Ford. On the left the school, present in its essential details of architecture and masonry. On the terrace around it are a few figures. On the right is a crowd of people in outline, behind them comes a procession with banners, in varied colours. In the background are hills in deep blue, and sky. ii) A scene set in the woods at night. Amongst the trees are shadowy figures, in the clearing a great many carry flaring torches. Back - A sketch for Henry, Marquis of Waterford's memorial, with an outline of the school behind it. Preliminary sketch only.
