Summary
Pencil on ridged white paper, A Woman Reading by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). Three fine lines in red ink printed around sides. A woman in full length left profile, sitting on a step her far knee rests on the step below, her foot tucked behind the ankle of her near foot. Beside her on the left is a box, on which she rests the elbow of her left arm, her head rests on the hand of this arm. Her right hand, in which she holds a book, also rests on this surface. She wears a long dress, her hair is tied back simply in a bun. Related Works Comment - A picture entitled Lady Reading was lent by Adelaide, Countess Brownlow to the Carlton House Terrace Exhibition 1910, Exhibit No.95a. Date - ca 1875-1885
