Summary
Watercolour with some bodycolour and pencil on thick ivory paper (oval), Holding a Palm by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). Pencil drawn frame about picture. (Found in small folder.) The upper body of a girl in profile, turned to the right of the picture, and holding a palm leaf before her. The face is soft, with round cheeks, eyes closed, straight nose and auburn, blonde hair full of curls, bouncing backwards and upwards. Attached behind her are a pair of wings. The background is dark blue shading, which escapes the pencil frame, lighter wash being used to even up the shape. From a distance, this very simple composition is rather lovely.
