Summary
Ink and pencil, on paper, Santa Fina of San Gimignano, Italy by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). Santa Fina (Seraphina), who was paralysed throughout her life, is here traditionally depicted, lying on a bare bed. She is attended by two women the one at the top end of the bed propping her head so that she may see out of a large stone framed window. The other seated on a chair in the foreground. A fine red line runs around the bottom and along the two side edges of the paper. Related Works Comments - Some influence from The Apparition to Santa Fina of St Gregory who announces her Death, in Ghirlandaio's Stories of Sta Fina series in San Gimignano may be detected in this sketch.
