Summary
Water-colour and gouache, with some gum, over pencil on card, Christ with the Magdalen by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891).Water damage top left portion. (Found in small folder.) Description - In the centre, Christ seated, and shown in full-length left profile Kneeling alongside him, though with her body twisted to look up into his face, is the Magdalen. The figures are set on a balcony or terrace, behind them is a wall and beyond this a landscape a plain and purple hills, with a fort in the right background. Biblical Reference - Luke 8, v.2- 3 John 12, v.3 (anoints Christ's feet). Related Catalogue No 1 - E1633 Related Works Comments - Christ and Mary Magdalen, was the title of a painting lent by Adelaide, Countess Brownlow to the Carlton House Terrace Exhibition 1910 Catalogue No.276.Date - ca 1862-69
