Summary
Water-colour and gum on paper pasted onto stiff card, Noli me tangere by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). (Small folder) Description - Drawn within a narrow arch, bounded by a free gold line, the picture shows a tall, upright Christ figure, positioned towards the front left corner of the picture. His head is turned back towards the left of the picture, however, from whence the Magdalen comes to seize his hand. The Magdalen is viewed from behind, as she bends to clasp Christ's hand where it hangs. The back portion of her dress is cut off by the bounds of the picture. This is the area where the gum appears. . Biblical Reference - John 20, v. 11 - 18, ('touch me not' v. 17) Date - ca 1858.
