Summary

Watercolour on paper, Study for Babe in arms on the right of the mural of Jesus Blessing the Children, Lady Waterford Hall, Ford, Northumberland by Louisa Anne Stuart, Marchioness of Waterford (Paris 1818 – Ford 1891). A wonderful, close pose of a child held in its mother's arms. The left arm of the mother supports the baby under its bottom. The child's head nestles beneath the mother's chin, and its body moulds to hers, leaving the legs to dangle.

Purchased with a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) from Edward John Peregrine Cust, 7th Baron Brownlow, C. St J. (b.1936) in 1984
