Summary
Bronze commemorative medal of the Friends of the Wrekin, presented to Disraeli on his election as M.P. for Shrewsbury in 1841. Obverse with view of Shrewsbury Abbey, Lord HIll Column and The English Bridge. Inscribed 'All Friends Round the Wrekin' and 'T.Halliday.F.' Reverse has crown, book, sceptre and sword on cushion with 'God Save the Queen' at centre of medal. Surrounded by inscription 'Festival at Shrewsbury to celebrate the return to Parliament of the XII Conservative members for Shropshire/ November 12.1841/ Hill Darlington Ackers Tomline Whitmore Forrster Gore Olive D'Israeli Botfield Pigot Gaskell/ Earl of Powis President'. In red square leather presentation box (429260.2), lid with decorated corners and inscription 'Benjn D'Israeli Esqe M.P.' Base of box has label attached with words 'Hughenden Manor House./ Heirloom.' Red silk and baize interior to box, silk marked and torn.
