Summary
Framed manuscript note relating to Disraeli's acquisition of marble reliefs (see NT/HUG/SC/60a-e) and other statuary. Paper has embossed coat of arms at top surrounded by the words 'Chancellor of the Exchequer/ Downing St'. Written in ink on the paper '21 articles. Marbles for Mr Disraeli from the Grimani Palace Venice/ Ten Medallions these were in frieze on the great staircase/ Two figures of Summer and Winter'. On reverse of paper 'Seven Busts. Virgin/ Titus (antique)/ Livia (antique)/ Sibyl (antique)/ Hasdrubal/ Mirabeau/ Poet/ Two antique heads. Homer and Aeschylus'.
Provenance
Presented to Mrs Disraeli by Sir Philip Rose, Bt., with other sculpture from the same collection (NT/HUG/SC/55a,b). See Hughenden MSS R/I/D/6. NT/HUG/SC/12 also by Marinali. Disraeli Sale 1881; Park Place, Remenham (1918 inventory); sold Mallams, Oxford, 4.10.1989, bt. Agnew.
