Summary
An upholstered footstool, English, circa 1870. The circular seat within a walnut and Tunbridgeware frame, standing on white ceramic feet. The top cover is beadwork on linen canvas ground. Grey and white glass beads depict flowers on a blue ground. With hand-written note attached to base '25.6.87 / Remembering the many happy times spent recruiting at Hughenden when Freddie and Angela McArdell were the custodians / Kay Robinson / Warren Field, Perks Lane, Prestwood, Gt. Tunbridgeware is a form of decorative inlay consisting of a mosaic of differently coloured timbers, predominantly found on small objects and boxes and was originally associated with the Kent town of Tunbridge Wells.
